Winners of the ERRA Award 2017
We are proud to announce that during the 16th ERRA Energy Investment and Regulation Conference the ERRA Regulatory Research Award 2017 was announced and handed over to the following authors:
Award Winner Paper #1:
“Monitoring Natural Gas Balancing Markets. A practical guide for regulators on how the performance of the implemented balancing mechanisms can be assessed” prepared by Pálma Szolnoki, Senior Market Analyst at IP Systems
Award Winner Paper #2:
“Perspectives on Regulating a Regional Electricity Market: The ECOWAS experience” prepared by Ifey Ikeonu, Regulation Specialist and former Council Member, ERERA (was not present in Astana)
Award Winner Paper #3:
“Estonian Experience in Implementation of Incentive Type of Price Regulation“. Authors are: Märt Ots, Estonian Competition Authority; Arvi Hamburg, Faculty of Power Engineering, Tallinn University of Technology; Einari Kisel, World Energy Council and Tarmo Mere Elektrilevi OÜ.
Highly Acknowledged Paper:
“Smart metering: an evolutionary perspective. Guidelines and lessons learnt from the Italian regulatory experience”. Authors are: Alessandro Pitì, Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering, Politecnico di Milano; Eleonora Bettenzoli, Italian Regulatory Authority for Electricity Gas and Water (AEEGSI); Marco De Min, AEEGSI and Luca Lo Schiavo, AEEGSI (Mr. Rolands Irklis – Chairman of PUC Latvia received the Award on behalf of the Italian team)

The ERRA Regulatory Research Award was established in 2014 in order to expand energy regulatory research and analysis and contribute to improve regulatory practices among ERRA energy regulators and to encourage cross-disciplinary research, e.g. among legal, financial, engineering and accounting experts within and outside the regulatory authorities.
13 Research Papers were submitted for the ERRA Award 2017, each paper expressed new approaches within the framework of their own sector and their markets.
