Gergely Szabó acquired his law degree at Pázmány Péter Catholic University, Hungary. He has been working at the energy regulatory authority of Hungary since 2009 in various positions. He started as a legal advisor responsible for European Union law issues and international relations at the legal department of the Hungarian Energy Office (the legal predecessor of MEKH). In 2012 he continued in the same position at the newly-established Department of International Relations. He was appointed as Head the Unit of International Relations in 2015 (main responsibilities included bilateral and multilateral cooperation, coordination of foreign missions of MEKH, international consumer protection issues). In January 2023 he became Deputy Head of Department and was temporarily also responsible for the coordination of the EU Affairs Unit’s work focussing on Union-wide electricity and gas issues. He was promoted as Head of the Department of International Affairs in September 2023, where his main task is to oversee the Department’s work and to support the Vice President for Strategic and International Affairs. He has been participating in the work of the Energy Regulators Regional Association (ERRA) since 2009.
