Jan Metzl is an expert in European energy policy, gas and hydrogen market regulation, and energy system transformation. From 2019 to 2025, he served as Senior Specialist for Regulatory Affairs at NET4GAS, where he focused on the impacts of EU and Czech legislation on gas transmission, tariff design, hydrogen market development, and strategic alignment with EU climate objectives. His work included extensive cooperation with major industry platforms such as ENTSOG, GIE, the European Hydrogen Backbone initiative, and national and European regulatory bodies.
In parallel, Jan worked as an External Senior Consultant at BDO Audit, advising companies on ESG and EU sustainability reporting frameworks, including SFDR, NFRD, CSRD, and carbon footprint methodologies under the GHG Protocol. He previously held the role of National Expert for Electricity Market Design at the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade, representing the Czech Republic in EU energy fora and contributing to the negotiation and coordination of the EU Winter Package and related market design reforms.
Jan holds degrees in Socioeconomic and Environmental Development of Regions and European Studies and International Affairs, complemented by international study experience in Norway. He has also completed specialized trainings in clean energy development, commercial diplomacy, and energy security.
He is currently the Director of Department of Technical Regulation of Electricity and Gas Markets, bringing together his regulatory, legislative, and strategic expertise to support the Czech Republic’s evolving energy landscape.
