Samir Akhundov is the Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA), appointed on January 30, 2018. He previously led the Siemens AG office in Baku, serving as Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Akhundov has over 25 years’ experience in electric power systems, electrical networks, and energy management. He has also held leadership roles in business associations, serving as Chairman of the German-Azerbaijan Business Association (DAWF) and, later, Chairman of the Board of the German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce (AHK Azerbaijan).

He holds an engineering degree from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Azerbaijan Technical University and defended his PhD at the Azerbaijan Scientific-Research and Design Power Engineering Institute on “Electric Power Systems and Electrical Networks, Energy Management”.
