Prof. Dr.-Ing. Klaus Kleinekorte has spent most of his professional life in the power sector especially the transmission grid. He received a diploma in electrical engineering and a PhD degree from the University of Technology Aachen, and since more than a decade he acts as part time lecturer at his Alma Mater and was appointed Honorary Professor at the Institute for Power Economics, RWTH Aachen.

Since 1992 he worked with RWE in various management functions. He was project leader for the synchronous interconnection of Poland, Slovak and Czech Republic and Hungary with the UCTE grid in 1995/96 after the iron curtain vanished in 1989. In 2000 he was appointed Director System Control and in 2003 he was appointed to the Board of Amprion GmbH the newly founded TSO branch according to the unbundling in Europe.

Since 2009 the majority of Amprion is owned by institutional investors and the company became an independent TSO according to European regulation. Within the Board he acted as CTO and his area of responsibility comprised the departments: Asset Management/Grid Planning, Engineering and Operations, the Control Centre Brauweiler, Offshore interconnectors, and Safety Management.

Mr. Kleinekorte was strongly involved in the associations work and the development of the UCTE Operation Handbook, which was developed by the UCTE Working Group Operations and Security under his chairmanship. He chaired the group of European operators from 1997 to 2009 within the association UCTE and from 2009 to 2013 within the successor association ENTSO-E. Within CIGRE he represented Germany at the Administration Council and he served for 6 years as German member of the CIGRE Steering Committee.
