Mr. Samerjai Suksumek received his Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of North Texas, the USA. He has extensive experience in Thailand’s energy sector. From 2013 to 2014 he was Director General of the Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO), Ministry of Energy, responsible for recommending energy policies, energy management and development plans as well as measures for implementing national energy strategies to the Minister of Energy to ensure sufficient and reliable energy supply to meet demand of the country. In July 2014, he was appointed Deputy Permanent Secretary of Energy until his retirement in the same year.

From 2015 to 2018, he served as Director of the Energy Fund Administration Institute (EFAI) (Public Organization), an independent agency under the Ministry of Energy, responsible for procurement of fund to stabilize domestic retail oil prices and for other tasks in compliance with the government policies.

Since 14 September 2018, he has been appointed Chairman of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) of Thailand to take a leading role in regulating electricity and natural gas industry operation in compliance with the objectives of the Energy Industry Act 2007 under the policy framework of the government.
