Mrs. Betata Wassila Atimene was born in 1967 in Algiers. She holds a State Engineer degree in Electronics from the University of Science and Technology Houari Boumediene (USTHB). In 2007, she completed training on the economic regulation of the electricity and gas public sectors at the University of Florida, USA.  She began her professional career in 1992 as a lecturer at the University of Science and Technology Houari Boumediene and the National Institute of Higher Studies in Medical Sciences (INESSM) in Algiers. In 1998, she joined the National Company for Electricity and Gas “Sonelgaz Distribution”, where she held various positions in electricity distribution network operations, commercial management, and the administration of electricity and gas affairs and budgeting.  In 2006, she joined the Electricity and Gas Regulatory Commission (CREG). From 2006 to 2021, she served as a senior officer, then deputy director in the licensing, concessions and renewable energies department, before being appointed Director of the Concessions and Public Services department. In 2021, she was appointed to the CREG Management Committee board and has been named as the Commission’s President since November 2022.
