The future role of natural gas in the European energy mix is uncertain and various institutions strive to identify implications for the future utilization of natural gas transmission networks in the light of declining demand.
The latest ACER study mainly aims to respond to the challenges of the energy transition and the European decarbonization policies for natural gas transmission networks with recommendations.
The other key objectives are to identify the regulatory challenges of NRAs and the natural gas TSOs, evaluate the current regulatory practices, and analyze possible regulatory options in relation to repurposing, decommissioning, reinvestments, and the extended use of natural gas transmission assets beyond their regulatory asset lifetime.
The study was prepared by DNV Energy Systems Germany GmbH and is available for download below.
