Better Data for Energy Efficiency: Short Term Estimates of Energy Efficiency Progress
Energy efficiency plays a crucial role in the EU’s decarbonization efforts. However, compared to other key drivers such as the expansion of renewable energy and the reduction of fossil fuel reliance, progress in energy efficiency is often underrepresented. This discrepancy stems from several factors, including data heterogeneity, inconsistencies, limited availability, and the significant time lag associated with official statistics and monitoring mechanisms. The primary objective of this project is to develop methodologies that can complement official Eurostat data by generating informed estimates. These approaches aim to bridge the gap in energy consumption and efficiency-related insights, reducing the delay in the availability of final energy consumption data across key economic sectors.
