Promotion of Electricity produced from Renewable Energy Sources in the Energy Community

The promotion of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) is integral part of the energy policy agenda on European level. Parallel to the entry in force of the first Directives on electricity and gas, the Commission already in 1997 issued a “White Paper on Renewable Sources of Energy”v. Following this, Directive 2001/77/ECvi set the first legal framework for the promotion of electricity produced from renewable energy sources in the internal electricity market.
