December 2021 regulatory story describes the experience with and results of the so called Interim Coupling Project (ICP) as a good example of regional cooperation among national regulatory authorities (NRAs), transmission system operators (TSOs) and nominated electricity market operators (NEMOs) in order foster and further develop cross-border electricity market integration in Central Europe and thus bringing the benefits that a coupled market can offer to market participants and consumers.
The Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (MEKH) presents the article which tells the story of preparation for the project, its implementation, surpassed obstacles and market observations based on a comparison of 100 trading days before the go-live of the project and 100 trading days after. The article is concluded with a number of lessons learnt from the process.
