Responsibilities
Legal basis/ mandate
The Department of Energy (‘DoE’) is established pursuant to Abu Dhabi laws as the regulatory authority of the electricity, water, wastewater, and district cooling, oil and gas activities in Abu Dhabi Emirate in the United Arab Emirates (referred to as Abu Dhabi Energy Sector). Under its governing legislations, the DOE is mandated (amongst other things) to licence all entities operating in the Energy Sector, to develop and implement the Energy Sector strategies and policies, and to regulate the Energy Sector from all aspects including technically and economically. The DoE is also mandated to regulate customers’ tariffs, to develop and monitor the implementation of consumer standards consumers’ rights.
Responsibilities
Under its governing legislations, the DoE is mandated (amongst other things) to licence all entities operating in the Energy Sector, to develop and implement the Energy Sector strategies and policies, and to regulate the Energy Sector from all aspects including technically and economically.
The DoE is also mandated to regulate customers’ tariffs, to develop and monitor the implementation of consumer standards, and to promote competition, public private partnerships, energy efficiency, sustainability and conservation.
