Electricity regulation cannot be fully understood without understanding the physical system behind it. This course offers a practical and accessible introduction to the technical fundamentals of electricity supply for professionals without a technical background.

The programme explains, step by step, how power systems are built and operated, covering the main components of generation, transmission, distribution and system control. Complex technical concepts are translated into clear language and supported by practical examples, helping participants understand the technical realities that shape decisions across the electricity sector.

The course equips regulators, policy professionals and market participants with the technical foundation needed to engage more confidently with electricity sector issues and to contribute to better-informed regulatory and policy outcomes.

1-day site visit will be organised for course participants.

This course is eligible for 5 CER credits. More information on the Certified Energy Regulator (CER).

The program is available to classroom and remote participants parallel. Thus, if you cannot travel to Budapest for any reason, you do not need to miss this unique technical learning opportunity, you can sign up for online participation.

For more details or any questions, please contact the ERRA Secretariat.

ERRA is extending its 3-day Power Sector Basics for Non-Engineers Training Course with content on Natural Gas. Participants might choose to join the electricity or the natural gas block only but they might decide to sign up for all 4 days (incl. site visit).

    Mikheil Odisharia

    Course Instructor

    Junior Regulatory Expert
    ERRA

Mikheil Odisharia is an energy professional with over seven years of experience in electricity market development, grid operations, and regulatory reform. His work has focused on adapting European energy market principles to Georgian conditions, including drafting market rules, balancing product methodologies, and implementing technical standards within the grid. He has worked closely with regulators, TSOs, and international organisations to promote market alignment, transparency, and cross-border cooperation.

In addition to his technical and regulatory work, he is also an active lecturer and knowledge-sharer. He regularly delivers courses on electricity markets, covering everything from market design and pricing mechanisms to renewable integration, balancing services, and green certificate schemes. He takes pleasure in simplifying complex concepts for diverse audiences — whether they are market participants, engineers, or future energy professionals.

    Pre-booking

As the training course has limited number of seats, participants are encouraged to register early. A pre-booking phase is currently open to allow interested participants to reserve their place in the two-day training course.

All pre-bookings will be reviewed, and participation will be confirmed after August 14, 2026, subject to reaching the minimum number of participants required to hold the training. Participants with pre-booking will receive a confirmation message with further details.

We invite you to register your interest at this stage to ensure your place in this ERRA training course.
