Mike Madden is the Managing Director of MJMEnergy and an international expert in gas, LNG infrastructure and energy markets. As a chartered engineer with over forty years’ operational and commercial experience, Mike brings a unique blend of technical and commercial experience. He started his career at British Gas as transmission operations before moving to Gas Transportation Services where he led a team negotiating gas transportation and storage contracts. Mike founded MJMEnergy in 1995, which has been involved in providing consultancy and training services to the world’s energy markets in over 50 countries. Mike has provided consultancy on unaccounted-for-gas, gas market reform and gas market liberalisation, network codes, gas storage, gas networks and LNG.

As a chartered engineer with over 40 years of operational and commercial experience, Mike offers a unique blend of technical, economic, commercial and regulatory expertise to energy sector clients. After 13 years at British Gas plc, initially as a pipeline engineer and then a commercial negotiator in British Gas Transportation, Mike left British Gas to form MJMEnergy Ltd. Over the last 26 years, Mike has worked in over 50 countries advising governments, gas producers, banks and gas buyers on a variety of aspects within the energy sector including business development. Recent projects include:

  • (i) Provision of technical advice to the ECA Project Team on the Malaysia Energy Regulator (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) Price Control Project 
  • (ii) Provision of technical and commercial advice to DEFA (Cyprus) on gas transmission pipelines, development of the Cyprus Gas Network Code
  • (iii) Working with the World Bank in Thailand on energy market liberalisation
  • (iv) Technical advisor to GoP (OGRA) on market reform 
  • (v) Leading a World Bank study to provide technical and commercial advice to Vietnam Electricity (EVN) on LNG imports
  • (vi) Leading an LNG market aggregation and infrastructure access options study in Senegal.
