The success of the energy transition hinges on strong electric utilities. A new World Bank report, "The Critical Link: Empowering Utilities for the Energy Transition," highlights the crucial role utilities play in achieving the dual goals of the clean energy transition: decarbonizing electricity supply and demand while providing electricity to the nearly 700 million people who still lack it. Using new data, this concise yet comprehensive report examines the performance of over 180 electric utilities in more than 90 countries. It provides critical insights into utility performance in the developing world, identifies new challenges—and opportunities—brought about by the clean energy transition, and charts a way forward for utilities to fulfill their mandate of delivering affordable and reliable electricity supply to all. ERRA contributed to the report with data research.
