Having no grid capacity on high- and medium-voltage electricity networks seems to be the new normal in the Netherlands. Grids across the world have become bottlenecks slowing the advancement of renewables, but the Netherlands seems to have been hit by the problem particularly early and hard. The Dutch story showcases how grids can become a bottleneck for the expansion of renewables and electrification in any country with such ambitions.
In his work, Mr. Dominic Scott the Senior Advisor and Consultant of RAP discusses the sustainability of investments in renewable energy because. He explains the price cannibalization and outlines several factors for it such as the falling costs of solar and wind technologies, the role of carbon pricing and the need for flexible technologies to manage fluctuations in renewable energy supply.
In this report, EUI presents the major application and impact areas of CfDs in a European context, describes the most relevant design dimensions and discusses several design packages for CfDs as combinations of distinct design choices separately and in comparison. They also provide a detailed overview of CfD schemes implemented in Europe.
The paper provides information on the existing flexibility related data exchange that DSO's are involved with and identifies possible future involvement which also may require NRAs’ attention, while outlining some of the recent and ongoing developments at EU level.
In the latest ERRA Regulatory Story of the Quarter read about the key role played by the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (MEKH) in facilitating battery energy storage in Hungary through developing detailed rules of the domestic storage support schemes and the benchmark revenue calculation.
DNV’s annual Energy Transition Outlook presents the results from their independent model of the world’s energy system. It covers the period through to 2050 and forecasts the energy mix, supply and demand globally and in 10 world regions.
This report delves into the achievements of Sweden, Costa Rica, Brazil, New Zealand and Spain, which have successfully navigated the complexities of energy transition. It highlights their unique approaches and innovative solutions. These best practices can potentially guide ERRA countries in adopting effective strategies for the energy transition.
This study examines the production, transport and supply costs of key Power-to-X products for the year 2030. A total of 39 globally distributed regions in developing and emerging countries were therefore analyzed in terms of their renewables and Power-to-X production and supply cost potential.
The electricity production from renewable energy sources needs to be increased by a total of 27 TWh by 2030. E-Control has developed its own grid connection action plan, which provides for a number of measures to speed up the implementation of grid connections. Efficient grid connection of PV systems requires Photovoltaics as an important building block for achieving climate goals. [Featured Image from Pixabay]
The report examines the regulatory landscape for energy prosumers, citizen energy communities, as well as peer-to-peer trading and energy sharing across various ERRA member countries.
National Energy Regulatory Council (NERC) of Lithuania adopted a Procedure for the Organisation of tenders and the Granting of Permits to Use Parts of the Maritime Area for the Development and Operation of Renewable Energy Power Plants. The process was possible based on amendments to the Law on Energy from Renewable Sources which were adopted in Lithuania in May 2022.
The paper presents the functional evolution of energy regulators from the beginning based on the results of the survey conducted among the regulators of different countries of the world.
