The course prepares participants on the regulation necessary to foster renewable energy as one of the key pillars of the energy transition. It provides an introduction on renewable energy economics and policy across key geographies including Europe, the US and Australia. The course then covers in-depth all the regulatory measures required to support renewable energy from feed-in tariffs to contract-for-difference (CfD) schemes, as well as their different interpretations. It also covers the mechanisms for CfD auctions, and the overall process of awarding CfDs to different renewable energy technologies, risks and mitigation measures in their implementation. It concludes with the latest developments in revenue schemes for renewable energy sources, focusing on power purchase agreements (PPAs), Guarantees of Origin (GO) and power sector flexibility, and the regulatory measures that support their implementation.
This course is eligible for 10 CER credits. More information on the Certified Energy Regulator (CER).

Regulation of Renewable Energy Sources is the first part of a series of 3 individual training modules designed specifically for professionals to assist energy regulators and professionals active in the transforming energy sector.
The remaining modules will cover (2) Regulation of Flexibility (3) Regulation in Energy Transition completed over a 9-month cycle on a hybrid setting. Each module is a stand-alone training that can be attended separately.
February 10 – 12, 2025 (3-day course) | Budapest, Hungary | 10 CER credits
June 9 – 11, 2025 (3-day course) | TBD | 10 CER credits

Course Director's Invitation
I would like to invite all interested parties to the course on Regulation of Renewable Energy Sources provided by ERRA. The course is critical for all those professionals working in the renewable energy sector, and wider energy sector, in order to learn how to structure and implement effective regulations to foster renewable energy in support of the wider energy transition across their markets or countries of operation. The course therefore prepares all professionals working on energy transition topics to be more effective in their activities.
During the course of three days, we will first learn the rationale for support mechanisms for renewable energy, when to deploy them, and how to structure them. The topics covered will include both direct and indirect support mechanisms, as well as power grid related measures. We will then run through real-life examples on the effectiveness of such support mechanisms with case studies, and understand what revenue streams are already available in the power market for renewables, and how regulation can be deployed to overcome some of the hurdles to such revenue streams. Finally, we will gain a wider understanding of regulatory measures that indirectly support renewables in the area of power grid flexibility, as well as power market design.
Participants in the course will therefore gain a complete set of knowledge and skills to design and implement effective regulation for renewable energy sources, fit for the market at hand. Such knowledge and skills will include the ability to identify possible regulatory hurdles and solutions, as well as how to design regulation for renewable energy sources across different parts of the power value chain, from production to market functioning to power grids. This comprehensive approach makes the course both unique and effective for all participants.
